Direct Response Marketing and The Marketing Funnel

Every network marketer is continually looking to build networks within networks and direct response marketing is process for building them. This principle is logically sound because people are more productive working with people who share similar passions.

Whether those efforts are based on a new product release or a completely new business venture they’re reflected in a marketing funnel of any size and at any level.

At the top of our marketing funnel we’re looking for people who are interested in the online business world. That’s a broad niche but a niche nonetheless because everyone we find on the internet isn’t interested in doing business there.

Direct Response Marketing and Niche Marketing

Permission based marketing is accomplished when people choose to be courted as a lead or prospect. Direct response marketing begins before an individual first decides to be courted and continues until they sever the relationship.

The broadest niche is usually filled from responses to online content or ads at which point they become leads. Network marketing depends upon a steady flow of these leads even though many of them never buy or join your business.

The next response either through phone or email will determine if a lead becomes part of a smaller network or not. This process is the same if your lead list is 100 or 10,000 and continues as long as you have something new to offer (which in well developed funnels can be endless).

New Offers – Direct Response Marketing to your Existing Network

In the same way you would build a smaller network from a larger network, you would present new offers to appropriate networks. Sales and business building should always follow the response back to an offer and be directed to just those who welcome that courtship.

A gentleman used to ask permission from a lady’s parents and then the lady herself prior to courting her. Even if he’s the prince protocol must be maintained.

The quickest way to dissolve a network is to pitch them endlessly about every little thing you or some affiliate has available. Always asking permission at every stage of the marketing funnel engages the decision making process of your prospects; true leaders are also decision makers.

Teaching and Training – Direct Response Marketing and Leadership

Here’s another principle related to network marketing. Every network marketer leads a team of leaders.

Leadership is always a high priority for teaching and training. Everyone in the network knows how they arrived there and what is required of them provided they were engaged in the direct response marketing process.

Knowing why the process is important also helps preserve the integrity of the network. Learning how direct response marking works is far easier when you were a willing participant in that process, and easier to teach others as well.

Independent entrepreneurs aren’t just the casing for someone else’s products and services… they are the business.

Your MLM market is distinct and exclusive but they live among thousands of people who are definitely not who you’re looking for.

Knowing where to find them is a matter of knowing what they look like and what they’re looking for. Attracting your market to you is the easiest way of finding them.

List Building

When you realize that building a database or a list of people is the source for your future in the MLM business you’ve chosen, you’ll want to find ways to build that list.

The internet is undoubtedly the biggest body of water to fish in when it comes to adding names to your lead list. Not all leads have the same value and a big list doesn’t necessarily mean huge profits.

Different lures attract different fish and knowing who you want to reach affects what you’ll use to reach them.

Good Advice I Receive… Good Advice I Share

I just got off a training call and a well respected source made a great, boiled down, basic as basic can get observation of what a working internet business model looks like.

Having control over your lead flow (owning the list you generate from a constant source of traffic)
Having a marketing funnel that converts

Until those two elements are functioning you won’t have an online business. All of your efforts and energy should be focused on those two aspects.

Beyond that everything else is a matter of what type of business you’re in or want to create.

The traffic source should yield leads or prospects within the niche that fits your business. The funnel should effortlessly convert leads to clients, customers or business partners.

Why Do They All Function Differently?

Using web 2.0 marketing strategies to promote revenue producing websites wouldn’t be that hard if it weren’t for the fact that every one of these web 2.0 sites uses a unique interface.

As an entrepreneur I’m conditioned to seek out simplification wherever possible but in web design the key is originality.

Take notes when you sign up and use a spreadsheet to keep it all straight.

Select 5 different web 2.0 properties where you can post unique content, pictures and ideally video.
Prepare the content for these 5 sites as well as your web site to be relevant to one another.
Use keywords and phrases to link from these sites to your own site. (inbound links)
Use keywords and phrases to link from web 2.0 site #1 to #2, #2 to #3, #3 to#4 and #4 to #5.
Ensure you never close this loop by linking from site #5 back to #1.

Provided that the content is prepared this shouldn’t take more than 15 to 20 minutes twice a week. I recommend keeping the details in a spreadsheet as it will get complicated the longer you maintain these sites.

Plugging In vs. Standing Alone

The marketing system you choose to plug into should definitely take you further than if you tried to master every aspect of doing business online alone.

When I first got plugged in it reminded me of the incredible variety of sounds that can be created with an ordinary acoustic guitar and a modeling amplifier.

Do I Need A Work At Home Business Idea?

Ever try selling a steak to a vegetarian?

Ever try selling something that nobody has ever heard of?

Ever try selling something that nobody wants?

Ever heard of a product or service that everyone needs and is willing to pay any asking price for?

While it’s true that every successful business venture began as an idea in someone’s mind, that doesn’t mean that every work at home business idea is unique to that particular person. Discovering a great idea can be as profitable as generating the idea yourself. What entrepreneurs have learned regarding faith and cooperation is apparent in the new business model. Allowing business owners who market and distribute a product, to share the wealth created by that product, is the essence of network marketing.

Different companies vary in the payout levels they offer, but unlike the traditional business model, they all pay very handsomely. These variations in the network marketing formula also undergo regular changes as the company seeks to generate more incentive to the individual business owners.

Many larger corporations have taken up the practice of offering profit sharing, and sales jobs have always been linked to commissions which are merely incentives to sell. The major difference from the folks who work at home as private business owners is the absence of an income ceiling.

In fact the success of a company that utilizes network marketing through work at home business owners is directly linked to how profitable it is for those individuals. The greatness of a particular idea may never come to fruition without a great idea on how to market and distribute that idea. Should I Also Have A Work At Home Job?

Working for an employer is never to be confused with doing work for someone. If the question suggests that a work at home business owner, also have a ‘day job’ that happens to offer telecommuting privileges, I’d have a hard time with that arrangement.

Many of my colleagues offer a variety of services to other individuals or companies not directly related to their primary work at home business. I use the term primary because any service, or work we perform, also constitutes a business. They simply create multiple income streams by developing their talents into different businesses.

One of the benefits of developing a work at home business from scratch is that the skills involved can be applied to a variety of different situations. In most cases those skills are only developed enough to launch their business.

In the network marketing arena we often find ourselves sharing the talents that we’ve developed in the process of building our business with people in our network, or other associates. Whether we go on to actually establish separate businesses, or develop products or services related to our expertise in certain areas, depends largely upon the feedback from what we’ve already shared.

I’ve never heard from a successful entrepreneur who decided to take a job with a company doing what they do for their own business every day. In some instances that might constitute a conflict of interest. It’s also highly unlikely they’d ever earn what they could on their own.

The other possible angle for this question might be from the individual who already has a work at home job and wants to develop a work at home business. While on the surface there is nothing wrong with this situation, it would be wise to set a few guidelines up front.

1.    Will there be any conflict of interest?
2.   Are they prepared to endure a longer startup phase?
3.   Do they still plan an exit strategy that allows them to fire their boss?

Integrity Depends Upon Openness And Honesty

Someone who designs web sites for Conglomerate Web Designs, for instance, and intends to start a work at home business designing web sites, may have some legal issues. Very often employees aren’t aware of the fine print lawyers write to protect large corporations. That web designer’s work may legally belong to the company. It’s always best to verify what constitutes a conflict of interest with your employer before starting a business.

I witnessed employers arresting people for using company equipment for private business purposes. This happened inside a corporate office but a work at home job can also involve the use of company equipment.

“Captain! I Need More Time!”

All of the people I know with a work at home job put in the same number of hours except for those saved in travel time. Sometimes that isn’t even the case because of late business calls and appointments.

Without outsourcing some of the work, the time it will take to get a work at home business up and running while performing a work at home job will be substantial. After working a job all day, their energy level and creativity will diminish. It takes a great deal of motivation to focus for another three to four hours.

Setting up and running a work at home business can be accomplished even without putting in the full day. Setting up and complying to a strict schedule is essential. Ensure that enough time is allotted for sleep and down time. Make goals that are realistic, based upon the hours the schedule allows.

The most important goal for a business minded individual is eliminating the need for an employer. That could be the day that the profits from the work at home business surpass that old paycheck. Even if the salary is great, the primary purpose of creating a new lifestyle always includes an increase in personal time.

So you don’t need a work at home job, but if you have one, and you seriously want a work at home business, make the commitment that it will only be temporary. Napoleon Hill taught me that any source for retreat competes with my mind’s ability to maintain a burning desire to win.
