Do I Need A Work At Home Business Idea?

Ever try selling a steak to a vegetarian?

Ever try selling something that nobody has ever heard of?

Ever try selling something that nobody wants?

Ever heard of a product or service that everyone needs and is willing to pay any asking price for?

While it’s true that every successful business venture began as an idea in someone’s mind, that doesn’t mean that every work at home business idea is unique to that particular person. Great business ideas continue to transform ordinary people into successful entrepreneurs. Those same ideas have a similar effect on other people who are willing to execute the same plan.

In other words, the development of a new product or service creates a business opportunity. That product or service came about because of an idea.

Someone else comes along and recognizes the potential of that product or service. They generate an idea on how to share or market that product or service. While I’m continually amazed at the creativity of entrepreneurs to market the same product or service in a variety of different ways, their techniques are usually borrowed from the person who originally held that technique as an untried idea.

The truth is that people do actually continue to generate new and unique work at home business ideas, both in development and marketing. This is great news for the work at home enthusiast. Fresh ideas feed the very marketplace that entrepreneurs thrive upon.

Who Really Benefits From That Great Idea

Discovering a great  idea can be as profitable as generating the idea yourself. What entrepreneurs have learned regarding faith and cooperation is apparent in the new business model. Allowing business owners who market and distribute a product, to share the wealth created by that product, is the essence of network marketing.

Different companies vary in the payout levels they offer, but unlike the traditional business model, they all pay very handsomely. These variations in the network marketing formula also undergo regular changes as the company seeks to generate more incentive to the individual business owners.

Many larger corporations have taken up the practice of offering profit sharing, and sales jobs have always been linked to commissions which are merely incentives to sell. The major difference from the folks who work at home as private business owners is the absence of an income ceiling.

In fact the success of a company that utilizes network marketing through work at home business owners is directly linked to how profitable it is for those individuals. The greatness of a particular idea may never come to fruition without a great idea on how to market and distribute that idea. The idea of network marketing has enabled both the originator or a product, and the business owners responsible for selling that product, to experience financial independence on a scale never before attainable for most people.

The best work at home business idea is to get involved. Whether that means you’ve just developed a revolutionary new software program, or you want to leverage that product to produce wealth, the opportunity is there. Go for it.

Discovering The Work At Home Business Opportunity

Long before jumping into the true world of an entrepreneur, I would research telecommuting jobs. The concept of doing your work at home originated more with employers who either didn’t have the office space, or didn’t need particular employees in the office everyday. The rising cost of gasoline in areas that didn’t offer public transportation services, increased the willingness of companies to consider the concept of telecommuting.

The advancements in telecommunications services that had previously enabled companies with offices in diverse locations to work together, now made it possible for people to log in from home. Having a few key pieces of office equipment made working at home virtually the same as having an office downtown. A telephone appointment from the fifth floor of an office building was no different from an appointment conducted in the home.

If the goal is simply to work at home, a telecommuting job might sound appealing. It certainly lowers the expense of traveling to work each day. Many people are satisfied with this arrangement and lead very productive lives.

People who telecommute have an advantage over those who must travel to work when it comes to starting a home business. They can taste the freedom of working in a comfortable environment. They also have more time to expend starting and running a home business.

Like everyone else, telecommuters have little control over the amount of their paycheck. As employees of someone else, they are still subject to cutbacks, layoffs and failed businesses. The advantage of a virtual office won’t make a difference if they can lose their job.

Work At Home Or Anywhere

I spend a great deal of time on conference calls and phone appointments. My virtual office is now mobile. If my laptop is with me I have most of my home office in a case. Since most of my business is internet dependent, I can attend webinars, work on projects and campaigns from anywhere cellular service is available.

That isn’t to say that these options aren’t available to telecommuters, but by and large the costs of working this way will be at their expense rather than the employers. I’ve heard of companies that offer small compensations to cover some of their employee’s home office expenses, but others offer nothing.

Using time management principles, I’ve structured my schedule to meet both my business and family needs. This is my schedule. If I have to answer to an employer, their schedule becomes my schedule. Changing my schedule is always easier than changing someone else’s.

The Real Difference

The work at home opportunity isn’t the same as the at home business opportunity. While both offer the comfort and convenience of working from home, one is designed to profit a company, the other is designed to produce personal, financial independence. One uses the principle of exchanging time for money, while the other leverages time to produce profit.

If everyone were guaranteed that their particular job would afford them the lifestyle of their choosing, ensure continuous employment with retirement security, there would be no incentive for the entrepreneur.

I can remember when it was time to select a career, during the training and the immediate employment phase, it seemed like nothing would ever change.

We hadn’t seen a personal computer yet, and VCR’s were very expensive to buy. Digitizing analog signals was cutting edge technology.

Why Is It Essential?

Including people who own traditional businesses, everyone needs a work at home business opportunity. Not everyone will be successful, but anyone can succeed.

Looking at this as an essential for everyone, while recognizing that everyone won’t be successful sounds like a contradiction. Considering that everyone needs income to survive, it is also understandable that a percentage of people will lose at least one job during their lifetime. It is also reasonable to conclude that private business owners are also subject to failure.

The difference in the work at home business opportunity is that you are neither subject to losing your business or your job. The only reason people don’t succeed is because they quit. Gaining ground daily, true entrepreneurs are reshaping the business world because quitting isn’t an option.

Achieving success, like the objective lifestyle goal, is a personal matter. Some people would simply like to live comfortably. Others have a passion for travel or exotic vacations. For certain people profits between five and ten thousand per month are sufficient, while others work to achieve the same amount every day.

Not every work at home business opportunity offers the same potential for unlimited earning potential. Always seek an opportunity that builds wealth through residual income because when we decide to stop working, inflation won’t.

Living The Dream

I used to dream about how great it would be to work at home, but never realized half of the wonderful advantages it would present. If I simply worked from home for an employer, I doubt the experience would be quite the same. Working for myself, or rather for my family, puts this chapter of my life into perspective. My dream didn’t begin with amassing great wealth, it began as a deep desire to redeem the time I was losing each day with my family.

Usually waking before dawn, while my wife and children were still in bed, I prepared myself to spend at least 12 hours away from them, before returning home. Expecting at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep, meant I couldn’t expect to spend more than 4 or 5 hours with my family. For my youngest I barely had two solid hours before their bedtime.

It often felt like I spent the better part of my life moving back and forth between home and a job trying to be resourceful with my time on the road. Listening to books on tape, listening to training materials or speaking to my family on my cell phone were all great ways to breakup the monotony of commuting, but did nothing to resolve the inner conflict of sacrificing my time to provide for my family.

In a way it was ironic to be sacrificing my time, for the money necessary, to support a family I hardly ever saw. What made it worse was knowing that they didn’t care about how much money I made if it meant they didn’t get to see me. I was always able to make more money, but I could never make more time. In fact the harder I worked to make money, the more time I lost.

Peak Production During Business Hours

Within a few days of working from home I came to understand a very balanced and natural phenomenon at work in this environment. During the peak production hours of the day everyone was working and with minimal disturbances. My wife, bless her, is probably hard at work even now, but she handles specific jobs during the peak production hours. The older girls are home schooled and for the most part independent. They accomplish their academic requirements when their minds are most naturally focused. Even the youngest is lost in a world of playful imagination with her toys, playing her little heart out.

We experience occasional pandemonium but that’s to be expected in life. Someone once said, ‘A life worth living, should also be worth a few good stories after the fact.’

I don’t enjoy the distractions when they come, and I’ve been told that I tend to be very vociferous on those occasions, but I can’t justify saying I love working from home, if I’m not willing to shoulder the burden that home involves. The truth is I’m more productive in this environment than anywhere else I’ve worked in my life. Besides, I’ve never worked in any environment that didn’t have distractions. However, I’ve worked in plenty of places that were rife with pandemonium.

My oldest daughter used to love talking on the phone with me when I was at work. She didn’t have much choice in the matter as I’ve already explained. Hearing her voice did something to me; it made me miss her.

Now, when my youngest daughter calls me during working hours, I simply twist my head and behold her precious little smile. Most of the time she doesn’t have anything to say. She just likes to sit in my lap and ask a lot of questions. Sometimes I’ll even have to take a break to give her my undivided attention. I record that in my journal as a business meeting. After all, I work for her.
